Production and sales of the all-new and all-electric Ford Explorer will be delayed from this Autumn to the summer of 2024, citing new European technical standards as the source of the delay.

In a statement to Auto Express, Ford commented: ‘We are excited to bring the electric Explorer to our customers in Europe, the first electric passenger vehicle produced in our new Ford Cologne Electric Vehicle Center. Ford is embracing the incoming technical standard for electric vehicles (UN Regulation 100.3) because it is consistent with our internal philosophy to deliver safe, high-quality vehicles to customers around the globe. This means the new Explorer will now be delivered to customers in the summer of 2024.’

UN Regulation 100.3 concerns the certification of battery safety for electric vehicles, and introduces a new suite of conformity tests for vehicles sold in Europe. The Explorer will now be subjected to these new tests to ensure it is compliant with the new regulations.

Workers at Ford's Cologne plant are said to have been notified of the decision on the 10 August.

Got impatient, Star White Mach-E with 4 week availability, for what the price point of the Explorer should be. Just too tempting.

I registered for information on the Explorer and got my email today advising that orders could now be placed. I am nearly 4 years into my ownership of a Puma and was beginning to think about it's replacement.

I have looked at the Explorer and must admit that it does look nice both inside and out but I have yet to convince myself that battery is the way to go. As someone who has yet to agree having a SMART meter I tend to be a slow adopter until pros and cons are better known.

I'm not sure what the relationship is between this site and the Puma owners site but I had to register for this site as it would not let me in using Puma owners log in details and I was wondering whether other Puma owners are considering the explorer or perhaps waiting for the eletric Puma.

Welcome along - both run by me but unfortunately I dont think I can link the two sites memberships together so it is a case of registering on both.

You're not the only one wary of an EV. I was nearly tempted into a Tesla Model Y but I cant get away with no speedo, no buttons, and the just general feeling that its about the tech rather than the car / driving.
EV's like the explorer though seem to offer the familiarity of a car which is what appeals to me.
